Shockwave Therapy Macleod

What Is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment technique that uses high-energy sound waves.

These soundwaves have been shown to be beneficial in the treatment and management of many painful musculoskeletal conditions, most notably tendon injuries.

Tendons are common structures affected by mechanical overloading, resulting in microscopic trauma that reduces function thru pain on loading of the muscle / tendon junction.

Such injuries are often resilient to the body’s natural healing methods. The mechanical stimuli of the sound probe sends a pulse into the affected area, stimulating healing and alleviating pain. Shockwave is very much a way of rebooting a stalled healing process.

What Conditions Does It Treat?

Some of the conditions it is effective for are:

Between 3 and 6 therapy sessions of shockwave are required.

Pain relief and improved function can often be reported after the first session. In the treatment of tendon conditions 5-9 days between treatment sessions is optimal.

Shockwave is used in conjunction with standard physiotherapy treatment techniques. Exercise rehabilitation is the common adjunct with shockwave therapy.

Be ready to strengthen your newly pain free body part.
